A new step to improve cancer diagnosis announcement in Luxembourg

The announcement of a cancer diagnosis represents a turning point in the care pathway, both for patients and their relatives. As part of the “Cancer Diagnosis Announcement” project, an important milestone was reached on Friday, October 11, with the organization of a co-creation afternoon bringing together patients, relatives, and healthcare professionals.

This collaborative meeting, organized in partnership with Art Square Lab, is part of a design thinking approach aimed at working together to come up with practical, people-focused solutions to improve this sensitive moment in the care process.

This initiative is supported by Plan National Cancer 2 (PNC2) through a consortium comprising the Institut National du Cancer (INC), the Luxembourg Institute of Health, the Fondation Cancer, Europa Donna Luxembourg asbl, and the Fédération des Hôpitaux Luxembourgeois. Together, these partners would like to warmly thank the patients, relatives, and healthcare professionals who have contributed to this initiative since the project began.

Next steps

Two reports will be finalized by the end of 2025, summarizing the lessons learned from interviews with patients, their relatives, and the professionals involved. On this basis, prototypes of concrete tools will be developed in 2026 to transform the ideas collected into effective practices within Luxembourg healthcare institutions.

This project demonstrates our collective desire to make the process of delivering cancer diagnoses more humane and to place the patient experience at the heart of our continuous improvement efforts.
