The Institut National du Cancer in Luxembourg

We are a Luxembourg non-profit association, recognized as a public utility, founded on June 25, 2015. The INC is mandated by the Ministry of Health and whose ambition is to federate and animate the players in cancerology, but also to frame and structure all areas of prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and end-of-life care.

We act as a committed and determined pivotal player in the fight against cancer and in support care.

We work with integrity and neutrality to bring together healthcare professionals, label healthcare providers and disseminate our recommendations in the service of patients to harmonize best practices.

As a vector of humanist values, we encourage research with the overall aim of opening up, collaborating and sharing knowledge at national and international levels.

Missions

The Institut National du Cancer produces expert reports in the form of national recommendations, guidelines, reports and notices, in particular in response to referrals from parliamentary commissions and the relevant ministries.

Dedicated to beating cancer, we are working together to pave the way for tomorrow's structured, standardized treatments, both in terms of practices and patient pathways.

And also:

  1. Promote the evaluation of results in the field of oncology.
  2. Support “personalized medicine” (new approaches to diagnosis and treatment).
  3. Federate, inform and scientifically animate the actors of cancerology.
  4. Label service providers.
  5. Coordinate
    • The organization of oncology
    • Care networks
    • Competence centers
    • The development of national guidelines and patient pathways
    • Hospital and national Multidisciplinary Consultation Meetings (RCP)

Values

Evidence-based practice

Our approach is based on evidence from scientific research, solidly grounded in an approach resulting from systematic data collection through observation, questioning and hypothesis testing.

Our decision-making is informed by this effective practice, which serves to improve the quality of patient care at every stage.

Collaboration / Collegiality

All our actions are part of an important process of improving productivity and sharing knowledge.

We manage skills at national and international level, in partnership with the main players in the fight against cancer, to ensure a convergence of knowledge aimed at structured, standardized care.

Equity

Our ambition is to make access to care fair for all patients, and to ensure their quality of life throughout their journey.

We want to ensure that everyone has what they need, according to their circumstances.

Open to progress

We are driven by scientific progress, supporting and promoting research, and the implementation of personalized treatments for patients, at the heart of our concerns.

We believe in innovation and scientific discovery to meet the needs and desires of tomorrow's patients. We believe that by opening ourselves up to the world, we make it easier to understand.

AXIS 1 - Governance, Resources, Monitoring & Reporting

This axis aims to improve the organization of oncology in Luxembourg by setting up a system for monitoring the incidence and evolution of cancers in the country, developing and networking existing skills, and improving the quality of care and healthcare management.

AXIS 2 - eMedicine

The structuring of data and the implementation of a system for collecting and exchanging this data is the key theme of this axis, which aims to contribute to the modernization of the country.

AXIS 3 - Patient rights, information & training

In line with the objectives of the first PNC, this axis will enable current patients' rights to be improved through their active involvement in decision-making bodies. The aim is to achieve greater transparency of information, as well as a dedicated training program.

The INC is a key player in this axis, notably through two major projects aimed at improving the Announcement of a cancer diagnosis in Luxembourg and setting up a national information platform for patients and their families.

AXIS 4 - Prevention, Screening & Epidemiology

The development of preventive measures for cancer, in synergy with other national plans, the evaluation and enrichment of screening programs, and the monitoring of cancer epidemiology and risk factors in the country, are envisaged in this axis.

AXIS 5 - Diagnosis

Optimization of the diagnostic phase is an essential step towards patient stratification, enabling the implementation of personalized treatment and follow-up. Innovation in available methodologies, in line with scientific and medical progress, is an aspect to be addressed in the context of this axis.

AXIS 6 - Treatment, Multidisciplinary Care, Support Care & Patient Support

Access to high-quality, safe, effective and patient-centered care and treatment, and the development of supportive care and patient support, including all aspects of oncofertility, are included in this axis.

AXIS 7 - Oncopediatrics & Oncogeriatrics

This axis focuses on improving the quality and follow-up of patients from birth and in their geriatric years.

AXIS 8 - Clinical and translational research

The last axis aims to develop clinical and translational research in the country, to increase participation in research, but also to establish international collaborations that are essential for patients.
